Description

Bound is a one-of-a-kind work of art that explores the theme of captivity and the possibility of liberation. The textured background, with its dark greys and vertical lines, evokes the feeling of confinement like the walls of a cell or the bars of a prison. At the center, a sculpted hand emerges, still bound by a heavy chain and cuff, showing the marks of a long struggle.  Above the hand, just within reach, hangs a knotted rope of lighter color, symbolizing hope, faith, and the potential for freedom. This piece reflects on the chains that bind us, whether cultural, religious, political or personal, such as addictions, fears, toxic relationships, or past traumas. It speaks to the internal and external forces that keep us bound, attached and to the moments of courage it takes to reach for a way out.  In Bound, the rope becomes a metaphor for that moment of possibility. It represents the idea that, even in our darkest confinement, there is always a lifeline within reach, if we have the strength or faith to grasp it. This artwork encourages viewers to reflect on what binds them and to find the courage to reach for their own freedom.
